I have run a highly successful marketing business for over 12 years – so communication is REALLY important to me. That’s why I want to share something with you, which has been a fantastic communication tool for me over the past few months – AND helped me market by business!
Twitter – www.twitter.com
Twitter is a small, free program that runs on your computer, your phone or palm device. It allows you to send and receive ideas, information and messages with other Twitter users; via something known a ‘micro-blogging’. I use it as a way to connect with friends, clients and contacts.
Twitter can ALSO be an extremely powerful tool for marketing your business, website or blog for free! (I knew that would get your attention!)
If you would like to know more about Twitter generally, I recommend the following article from the super-talented Alisha’s blog:

To find out how to get more traffic to your website or blog using Twitter, read my friend Gregor’s excellent blog post below:

Thanks for the mention Jim!
I’ve noticed the more I use Twitter, the more others happen across my blog through my Twitter profile.
Just today I realized that Twitter can be a great way to hear about things around the world. I didn’t even know about the earthquake in China until Scoble mentioned it on Twitter. I probably wouldn’t have heard about it until the next day because my life is so busy I can go days without watching the news. I rely a lot on RSS feeds but am so busy sometimes that I don’t have time to read those either. Twitter delivers the message faster and gets right to the point!
Hi Ali,
There’s no doubt that for people with either a blog or a website, which they want to drive targeted traffic to, Twitter can be superb.
Of course, there are also lots of people who have a website, who are not really ‘into’ technology – who could still benefit massively from using Twitter as a marketing tool.
In my experience, you need to spend a little time developing connections with people first – but with a small number of ‘followers’ you can achieve stunning results. I assume that with all the buzz surrounding Twitter at the moment, it’s effectiveness will only increase.

Hi Jim, thanks for the link!
Yeah, Twitter can drive a lot of traffic. Get a good network and tweet in the same way that you’d write a headline and the results can be stunning!
Interestingly, a lot of traffic can come from other Twitter related websites such as Summize.com so spend a bit of time working on the text in your tweet so that it’s most likely to appeal to people using summize to search for a particular topic.

Hi Gregor,
You make a great point about how other sites; which are used to monitor Twitter messages (known as tweets) need to be considered.
Thanks Gregor
